R703.8 Flashing. Approved corrosion-resistant flashing shall be applied shingle-fashion in a manner to prevent entry of water into the wall cavity or penetration of water to the building structural framing components. Self-adhered membranes used as flashing shall comply with AAMA 711. The flashing shall extend to the surface of the exterior wall finish. Approved corrosion-resistant flashings shall be installed at all of the following locations:

6. At wall and roof intersections.

ROOF ASSEMBLIES - SECTON R901 GENERAL

R901.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall govern the design, materials, construction and quality of roof assemblies.

ROOF ASSEMBLIES - SECTON R903 WEATHER PROTECTION

R903.2 Flashing. Flashing shall be installed in a manner that prevents moisture entering the wall and roof through joints in copings, through moisture permeable materials, and at intersections with parapet walls and other penetrations through the roof plane.

R903.2.1 Locations. Flashings shall be installed at wall and roof intersections, wherever there is a change in roof slope or direction and around roof openings. A flashing shall be installed to divert the water away from where the eave of a sloped roof intersects a vertical sidewall. Where flashing is of metal, the metal shall be corrosion resistant with a thickness of not less than 0.019 inch (0.5 mm) (No. 26 galvanized sheet).

SECTION R905 - REQUIREMENTS FOR ROOF COVERINGS

R905.2.8.3 Sidewall flashingBase flashing against a vertical sidewall shall be continuous or step flashing and shall be a minimum of 4 inches (102 mm) in height and 4 inches (102 mm) in width and shall direct water away from the vertical sidewall onto the roof and/or into the gutter. Where siding is provided on the vertical sidewall, the vertical leg of the flashing shall be continuous under the siding. Where anchored masonry veneer is provided on the vertical sidewall, the base flashing shall be provided in accordance with this section and counterflashing shall be provided in accordance with Section R703.7.2.2. EXTERIOR WALLS - SECTION 1401 GENERAL

1401.1 Scope. The provision of this chapter shall establish the minimum requirements for exterior walls; exterior wall coverings; exterior wall openings; exterior windows and doors; architectural trim. Balconies and similar projections; and bay and oriel windows.

EXTERIOR WALLS - SECTION 1403 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

1403.2 Weather protection. Exterior walls shall provide the building with a weather resistant exterior wall envelope. The exterior wall envelope shall include flashing, as described in Section 1405.3. The exterior wall envelope shall be designed and constructed in such a manner as to prevent the accumulation of water within the wall assembly by providing a water-resistant barrier behind the exterior veneer, as described in Section 1404.2, and a means for draining water that enters the assembly to the exterior. Protection against condensation in the exterior wall assembly shall be provided in accordance with Section 1405.3.

EXTERIOR WALLS - SECTION 1404 MATERIALS

1404.2 Water-resistive barrier. A minimum of one layer of No. 15 asphalt felt, complying with ASTM D 226 for Type I felt or other approved materials, shall be attached to the studs or sheathing, with flashing as described in Section 1405.4, in such a manner as to provide a continuous water-resistive barrier behind the exterior wall veneer.

EXTERIOR WALLS - SECTION 1405 INSTALLATION OF WALL COVERINGS

1405.4 Flashing. Flashing shall be installed in such a manner as to prevent moisture from entering the wall or to redirect it to the exterior. Flashing shall be installed at the perimeters of exterior door and window assemblies, penetrations and terminations of exterior wall assemblies, exterior wall intersections with roofs, chimneys, porches, decks balconies and similar projections and at built-in-gutters and similar locations where moisture could enter the wall. Flashing with projecting flanges shall be installed on both sides and the ends of copings, under sills and continuously above the trim.

1405.4.1 Exterior wall pockets. In exterior walls of buildings or structures, wall pockets or crevices in which moisture can accumulate shall be avoided or protected with caps or drips, or other approved means to prevent water damage.

ROOF ASSEMBLIES AND ROOFTOPS STRUCTURES - SECTION 1501 GENERAL

1501.1 Scope. The provisions of this chapter shall govern the design, construction and quality of roof assemblies, and rooftop structures.

ROOF ASSEMBLIES AND ROOFTOPS STRUCTURES - SECTION 1503 WEATHER PROTECTION

1503.2 Flashing. Flashing shall be installed in such a manner as to prevent moisture entering the wall and roof through joints in the copings, through moisture-permeable materials and at intersections with parapet walls and other penetrations through the roof plane.

1503.2.1 Flashing/Locations. Flashing shall be installed at wall and roof intersections; at gutters; wherever there is a change in roof slope or direction and around roof openings. Where flashing is metal, the metal shall be corrosion resistant with a thickness of not less than 0.019 inch (0.483mm) (No 26 galvanized sheet).

ROOF ASSEMBLIES AND ROOFTOPS STRUCTURES - SECTION 1510 REROOFING

1510.6 Flashings. Flashings shall be reconstructed in accordance with approved manufacturer's installation instructions. Metal flashing to which bituminous materials are to be adhered shall be primed prior to installation
